Castle farm on unique plot in Tielen In the green landscape of the Kempen, near the recreational area of De Hoge Rielen, is the historic domain of Tielenhof. This castle, whose origin dates back to the 14th century, is located in the charming village of Tielen. Despite the quiet and rural setting, the domain enjoys a smooth accessibility: the train station of Tielen is just a few minutes walk away, about 800 meters away. The history of Tielenhof goes back centuries. It is believed that around 1350 Hendrik van Duffel had a castle erected in this place that served for a long time as residence of the gentlemen of Tielen. Throughout the centuries the domain changed ownership several times through marriages and inheritances within various noble families. It was not sold outside these circles until 1958. The castle had several renovations: A radical adaptation in 1830 transformed it into a summer residence, with part of the original medieval character disappearing. During a restoration campaign in the 1970s, historical elements from the 16th and 17th centuries were restored, including cross-frames and the characteristic staircase. Today Tielenhof forms a characterful L-shaped whole, built in traditional brick and sandstone. The main wing has two layers and is covered with a steep shield roof. The whole is complemented by several outbuildings, including a baroque coach house from 1686 and a gate building with wooden drawbridge. Access to the domain is via the impressive Castle Reef: an approximately 230 meter long, cassoid pounding rod leading to the area of about 1.7 hectares. Castles of this type are exceptional in the Kempense region and make Tielenhof a special piece of heritage. The location in the middle of a nature reserve makes the domain unique, but also requires a thoughtful interpretation. The destination remains mainly residential, although several interesting possibilities are conceivable: For example, a residential project with care or kangaroo living, combining living with a small-scale catering business such as a bistro or restaurant, or a cohousing concept that preserves the character of one household. For those looking for an exceptional residence with history, nature and potential, Tielenhof offers a rare opportunity. Interested? Call us now to schedule an appointment at 0489/89.49.74.
