I n the quiet Oplinter, a rural municipality of Tienen, you live surrounded by greenery and with wide views over the landscape. Behind the house the garden and extensive meadow provide plenty of space and privacy. Outside life is an important part of the living experience. Behind the brick facade of this house from 1911 a surprising interior world unfolds. The renovation by LAVA architects in 2014 brought a pronounced contemporary interpretation. Rough concrete, visible masonry, wood and black metal balustrades determine the character. The existing house and the new operations remain both recognizable.
The entrance sets the tone immediately. The staircase, inspired by the shape of a tree, connects the floors in a high, open space. Concrete structures, wooden steps and peeks between the levels give this place its own character. Light falls from top to bottom and emphasizes the height. Vestial and guest toilet practically complement the entrance. In the living room high windows provide plenty of daylight. A wooden floor and white ceiling beams bring warmth, while the dark fireplace is a clear accent. Sitting room and dining room are collapsing. The kitchen joins, with a black island, seats and a wide window on the green. On the first floor there are three bedrooms and a shower room. The second floor is fully furnished, with a bedroom, dressing and private bathroom. The basement can accommodate a laundry room, technical space and additional storage room. There is also much to discover outside. The plot of 5.512 m2 includes a garden, vast meadow, swimming pond and large covered terrace. The view of the surrounding landscape gives the outdoor space an open character. The available barns offer additional space. A house for those who love characterful buildings, thoughtful spatial interventions and lots of greenery.
