In a picturesque village nestled along the river is an old water mill. By about 1450 the grain was already being ground. The building is a classified historical property, built of marne stone about 80 cm thick. No matter where you look, the clear view is truly enchanting.
In 2016, the building was restored and upgraded from top to bottom under the direction of two renowned architects. The mill was again made suitable for grinding, thanks to the original gears still present inside and a modern and efficient hydraulic wheel on the outside. The interiors, beautifully integrated and custom made in each building space, are the work of an internationally renowned architect, in collaboration with several designers. The new roofs ensure good insulation and are glazed in two places, allowing optimal lighting.
The interaction between past and present is perceptible everywhere and has been conceived to perfection with materials of first choice. High-end brand technology provides buildings, in a totally invisible way, with all the necessary comforts, such as floor heating, mechanical ventilation and air conditioning, while respecting their ancient and charming character. For the most refined finishes, high-end materials have been selected, including taps, switches, toilets and lighting.
The impressive milling room is still intact. Moulding with grinding wheels is an authentic experience in a historic atmosphere. The beautiful Portuguese tiles evoke the old black and white checkered floors: a sublime discovery. The insulation is excellent thanks to the thick marne stone, new roofs and monumental double insulation glazing. The chassis are the work of skilled artisans and have been masterfully made to measure. Each luxurious room, with bathroom and private toilet, has a unique character. The large living and educational kitchen, warm and welcoming, equipped with appliances of very high quality, is a real dream. Sit well in the heat near the wood stove in winter and, in summer, admire the horizon from the terrace. All year round, atmosphere and superior class. And all with neutral energy! The majestic blade wheel is state-of-the-art and equipped with a generator, providing the necessary renewable electricity. Really, everything was thought.

History:
The watermill has a rich history. The original building probably dates back to the 14th century, the first records dating back to 1450. Anecdotes dating back more than a century later were preserved due to skirmishes with the Maastricht garrison. Between 1630 and 1650, the mill went through a period of decline and the judge intervened several times to have it seized because of the late maintenance. After 1650, the mill experienced better times and the front part was built. This remains clearly visible in the shape of the roofs and in the difference in interior level. An ancient facade stone depicts a chronogram in the form of worms, dating back to 1842. For more than five centuries the grain was mouled, but in 1962 the mill was closed, the valves disappeared and the water supply was interrupted. Fortunately, the internal mechanisms were preserved. The official recognition of its historical value finally took place in 1981. Since then, the mill has been protected as a national monument and the surrounding houses are protected as a village site.
The current owners decided to buy the water mill in 2008, restore it in its splendour and make it operational again for milling. To this end, the 30-metre supply channel along the mill was recreused. In order to optimize the efficiency of the hydraulic force, the canal has been fully lined with walls and a smooth concrete bottom, and a modern hydraulic wheel has been installed. In 2016, all renovations were completed, with remarkable results and unanimously welcomed. This magnificent element of the heritage has regained its original function and a new use has been added to it.
